IDF 'Belarusian General' Promoted To New Post

He was seriously wounded during the Hamas attack.

The IDF Command announced new appointments in the army command.

Among those receiving new appointments is Brigadier General Roman Gofman, who will head the New Battlefield Development Directorate of the General Planning Directorate of the IDF General Staff, newsru.co.il reported.

Gofman, a native of Mazyr, Belarus, is the first member of the "Big Aliyah" to be promoted to the rank of brigadier general. He commanded the Seventh Armoured Brigade and the Bashan Division deployed in the Golan Heights.

On October 7, 2023, as Commander of the Army Combat Training Centre, he went to Sderot to take part in repelling the Hamas attack on Israel. The general was severely wounded in combat.
