EU Secretly Preparing For Ukraine's Accession

The reasons are as follows.

Polish farmers are protesting because Ukraine has flooded the EU market with cheaper agricultural products. Farmers are also dissatisfied with fuel prices in EU member states and the new environmental regulations of Brussels.

With only three months before the European Parliament elections, EU leaders are trying to negotiate with Ukraine privately, Politico reports.

Some European politicians have made it clear that the negotiation process is going on secretly not only with Ukraine but also with other potential EU members, including Moldova and the Balkan states.

“Talking about less subsidies for European farmers is not something you’d want to put on your campaign slogans — or give as electoral ammunition for the far right,” the official added, referring to the European Parliamentary election in June.

At the same time, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, openly states that Ukraine should become a member of the EU "today, not tomorrow."

Experts say that if Ukraine becomes a full member of the EU, it will be the largest country in terms of area and population in the EU, which means, theoretically, Kyiv will have great influence in the European Parliament and the Council of the EU.

At the same time, Ukraine has the lowest GDP among the EU countries. The Union's domestic policy is that rich countries help the poor. It will turn out that Kyiv will need good financial assistance for a long time. Since the EU plans to expand even at the expense of Moldova and the 6 countries of the Balkans, the issue of future integration is being quietly, not in front of the public. At the same time, economists remind that it is impossible to become a member of the EU without carrying out European reforms within the country.
