Three Russians Arrested In Finland For Violating Sanctions

They are suspected of exporting dual-use goods from the country.

In Finland, three Russian citizens were arrested on suspicion of exporting dual-use goods without permission. The police demanded their arrest on charges of violating sanctions legislation under aggravating circumstances, the Yle television and radio company reported on May 3.

The suspects are students at the Kainuu Vocational School in the town of Kajaani in central Finland. It is known about the detainees that they are two 25-year-old men and one 18-year-old woman. The police detained them in the hostel on Tuesday; this became known only today.

The investigator does not disclose exactly what goods and to what country the suspects could have exported. Finland, as a member of the EU, adheres to an unprecedented sanctions regime against Russia: the export of thousands of items of goods to the country, including electronics, machine parts, optical instruments and sights, is prohibited.

If charged, Russian students face up to four years in prison.
