Pope welcomes liberation from despotism

Pope Benedict XVI has ended his visit to the Czech Republic on September 28. The visit was scheduled to coincide with the feast of St. Wenceslas -- a patron of the Czech Republic.

The trip of the pope to the Czech Republic was initiated by the Catholic Diocese of Brno. Benedict XVI visited Prague, Brno, and Stara Boleslav during three days. To make the meeting of the Czech people with Pope unforgettable and comfortable, special bus routes from several metro stations were organized, Radio Svaboda reports.

Signing, groups of Czech and Polish pilgrims with national and Vatican flags came to the field outside the town.

National Belarusian white-red-white flags could be noticed among others. For example, a Belarusian, a student of a Czech University, carried a national flag.

People were praying and signing. The uplift couldn’t but impressed: bright smiles, the unity of belief.

The Czech media quoted the pope, who condemned the communist regime in the Czech Republic for [persecution of the Roman Catholic Church.

“I join you and your families to thank for the liberation from this despotic regime,” Benedict XVI said.
