Authorities had to show Nyaklyaeu

(An archive photo) On Monday afternoon lawyers of the arrested presidential candidate in Belarus, Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu (Neklyaev), were suddenly allowed to see their client.

KGB investigators were interrogating the famous poet in presence of lawyers Tamara Sidarenka and Uladzimer Bukshtynau for about 5 hours.

The lawyers left the remand prison of the KGB only around 11 p.m. on Monday. Lawyer Tamara Sidarenka told that Nyaklyaeu feels bad, though he had not had a heart attack or a brain attack.

He has a huge bruise on his face, he complains of headache and high blood pressure, which could be lowered only by medicines. He even asked to bring a blood pressure monitor to him. Besides, his unnaturally yellow complexion is striking,” the lawyer said in an interview to “Narodnaya Volya” newspaper.

In general, as said by her, Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu’s carries himself well, he is calm.

- He had sent his wife 7 letters from the remand prison, but she has not received anything. My client was certainly pleased to learn about the response worldwide drawn by his detention, and how many colleagues in Belarus, Russia, Ukraine voiced support to him and called for his release.

- What questions were asked to Nyaklyaeu?

- I cannot speak about that. We have signed non-disclosure statement, as investigation is underway. The only thing I can say is that Nyaklyaeu has been interrogated as a suspect. He had not been exhibited charges. I do not exclude that on December 20 he could be released. It is the day when 10 days since his detention expire, and investigators are to decide: either to exhibit charges or to release him.

Nyaklaeu was battered before the meeting started, he was not present on the square. It would be strange to accuse him of mass riots. It is hard to imagine for me how such an accusation could be formulated. On the whole, I would like to hope for the best.
