Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius saw danger in Russian military grouping in Kaliningrad region.

“The today’s NATO presence is three fighter aircrafts for the three Baltic states. This is the so called air police that has a base here. On the other hand, we see a big contingent of forces in Russian Kaliningrad, which is not going to be reduced, we see military exercise in Belarus,” Kubilius told in an interview to “Izvestia” newspaper.

“When I hear that Russia plans to deploy a Mistral helicopter carrier in Kaliningrad, I ask myself what enemies it can be used against. This causes certain concern,” the politician said.

Kubilius also noted that Lithuania was ready for a more open dialogue and more effective relations with Russia. “But this depends on Russia itself,” the PM said.

The countries are now establishing a dialogue. “I had a 1.5-hour meeting with Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. We spent 30 minutes of the meeting discussing historical issues,” the Lithuanian PM told.
