Paintings by “Pahonya” creative association not passed by censorship

An exhibition of “Pahonya” creative association has been opened today in Minsk. On the day before, six artistic works were removed from the items on display for ideology reasons.

As “Nasha Niva” was told by the chairman of the creative association, an artist Alyaksei Marachkin, two of his paintings were prohibited to be put on display, as well as three posters by Uladzimir Krukouski and a work by Viktar Mikita. National symbols – a white-red-white flag or Pahonya ensign – were depicted at five items. And the paining by Marachkin “Phantoms (Victors)” is dedicated to the events of December 19, 2010.

Who has played the role of censors? “The leadership of the Union of Artists,” Alyaksei Marachkin said.

He has not mentioned the names. The organization is headed by Uladzimir Savich. His assistants are Syarhei Tsimokhau and Ryhor Sitnitsa.

The exhibition is dated to the 20th anniversary of “Pahonya” association. It includes works of such artists as Batalyonak, Drazdou, Nazarchuk, Markavets, Kupava, Tsyrkunou and others. The exhibition will last till March 27 in the Palace of Arts in Minsk (Kazlou Str, 3).
