Prosecutor’s office plans to punish… nobody knows whom

The General Prosecutor’s office is trying to pretend there is rule of law in the country.

Officials who are working in the agencies of the Interior Affairs of Belarus, who hindered journalists’ covering the unsanctioned protest rallies, will be subject to disciplinary action, stated the head of legislative execution and legal acts’ legality supervision department of the General Prosecutor’s office of Belarus Pavel Radzivonau (Rodionov).

“For violation of the legislation on the media officials will be subject to disciplinary responsibility,” Radzivonau said on Thursday at a briefing in Minsk, Interfax-Zapad reports.

However, he refused to tell the names of the officials who would be punished, but he noticed that “they are not any nameless persons.”

Radzivonau noted that in summer this year bodies of prosecution issued acts of prosecutor’s supervision related to journalists’ rights to cover mass events. In particular, he added that prosecution agencies demanded to debar violations of journalists’ rights when they are executing their professional duties. The prosecutor’s office reminded policemen that it is important to keep to the legislation on the media strictly.

As said by him, the Interior Affairs Ministry had admitted that the demands of the General Prosecutor’s Office are well-grounded. In particular, the Interior Ministry considered the demands to bring to disciplinary responsibility officials of the police agencies. “The responsible officials had been subject to disciplinary action,” he added.
