Ivan Shylo gets 20 days of arrest in absentia

Young Front activist Ivan Shyla has been sentenced in absentia to 20 days of arrest by the Horki district court.

Shyla took part in a picket of solidarity with Zmitser Dashkevich near the Horki penal colony on August 2. The youth activist demanded to allow Dashkevich to see his lawyer, salihorsk.org reports.

Most of the detained picketers were sentenced to arrest. Ivan Shyla was released in the court room after he had demanded a lawyer. Trial was postponed till August 8, but Shyla did not appear in court on that day.

Shyla was found guilty in partaking in an unauthorized picket and resistance to police. The activist was given ten days of arrest for each charge.

Shyla studies in Poland and occasionally visited Belarus during summer. He was given 18 days of arrest in summer for taking part in silent protests on Wednesday. He was taken to hospital when serving his latest arrest two days before the release. So, he will have to spend 22 days behind bars.

Shyla is in Poland now. It remains unknown when he will serve his sentence.
