Additional restrictions may be applied to Nyaklyaeu

Presidential candidate Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu has received a summons to appear in the Leninski district court of Minsk on September 9.

“The summons says I must appear in court in connection with ‘imposing additional restrictions’. They already restricted me in everything possible, but this is not enough for them. I do not know which additional restrictions they mean, but if it is house arrest, I’d rather agree to go from the fairest court to the most humane prison. I will never agree again to see armed people at my home 24 hours a day, to see my wife under arrest, too,” Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu commented the situation to the website of Tell the Trith campaign, BelaPAN news agency reports.

“I have not admitted my guilt and will never do this. I did not commit a crime. I was convicted illegally. This gives me the moral right to feel myself free. I can use this moral right not to fulfill ‘the imposed restrictions’. All restrictions, not only additional ones,” Nyaklyaeu says. “The authorities almost killed me and later made a criminal of me: I was tried and suffered in prison for nothing; my lawyer was disbarred for nothing… I cannot play a law-abiding citizen for these authorities after what happened to me.”
