Trial against Kavalenka starts February 21

The Pershamaiski district court of Vitsebsk says at least four court sessions (February 21, 22, 23 and 24) are planned to hear the case against CCP-BPF party activist Syarhei Kavalenka.

According to a lawyer, Syarhei Kavalenka did not stop hunger strike after enforced feeding.

The trial will be conducted by jusge Alena Zhuk and begin at 10:30 pm.

Lawyer Pyotr Kavalenka (who has the same surname as his client) was informed about the trial date. He told Syarhei's wife he continued the hunger strike he started on December 19, Radio Svaboda reports.

It should be reminded that Syarhei Kavalenka has been in a detention facility in Vitsebsk since December 22. he is accused of violating article 415 of the Criminal Code (evasion of serving sentence). A criminal case against Kavelnka was opened by the Corrections Department. Department officers insist Syarhei Kavalenka violated probation. He was given suspended sentence for hanging out a national white-red-white flag on a Christmas Tree in Vitsebsk on January 7, 2010.
