Policeman from “Kanavalau’s case” sentenced to three years’ imprisonment

The policemen who failed to fingerprint Kanavalau, has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.

Earlier Ruslan Sinitsyn was responsible for “phone terrorists”. The trial over the policeman was held behind the closed doors. A reference to state secrets which allegedly are contained in the materials of the case, was made.

“Nasha Niva” was told in Vitsebsk regional court that Ruslan Sinitsyn, an officer of the Interior Affairs directorate of the regional executive committee, had been found guilty of neglect of official duty.

He was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment with serving the sentence in a correctional colony in settlement conditions.

Sinitsyn has been also deprived a right to occupy positions in the Interior Affairs Ministry bodies for 5 years and a right to be engaged in forensic expert activities for 5 years.

We remind that the criminal case against Sinistyn was opened on charged related Article 428 of the Criminal Code (“Neglect of official duty”). In 2009 the policemen failed to fingerprint draftee Dzmitry Kanavalau, who last year was found guilty of staging blasts in Minsk and Vitsebsk.

The expert has not just failed to fingerprint him, but also issued an official document to the young man that he had been subjected to it before.

Thus the draftee was not checked for his involvement in the blast in Minsk on July 4, 2008.

According to the materials of the criminal case, the fingerprints of Dzmitry Kanavalau were found on the explosive device which failed to explode in 2008.

Under Article 428 of the Criminal Code Ruslan Sinitsyn faced restriction or deprivation liberty for up to 5 years with prohibition to occupy certain posts.

The trial over the policeman was held behind the closed doors. A reference to state secrets in the materials of the case was made.

Ruslan Sinitsyn is a graduate of Minsk Highest Aviation College. Before he started his work as a policeman, he worked in civilian aviation. He worked as an expert of a phonoscope laboratory of the forensic expert centre of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the regional executive committee. He was in charge of spotting “phone terrorists”. And later he was engaged in fingerprinting.
