Hostage taking in Syanno

A villager took a family hostages and killed a girl demanding to meet with top governmental officials.

As BelTA news agency learned from an official representative of the Investigation Committee division in the Vitebsk region, Inna Harbachova, a pensioner, born in 1950, living in the village of Ruleushchyna (the Syanno district), burst into the house of his friend, 58, from the neighbouring village of Staraya Belitsa and began to threaten the man and his two daughters with a knife. Holding the family in the house, the man, behaving inadequately, demanded to meet with different top officials.

Host's daughter, 17, managed to escape from the house and call police. At 1:30 am, the head of the family ran away when the malefactor relaxed. His elder daughter, born in 1991, remained in the house.

Policemen and local officials arrived and took a decision to storm the house. The malefactor was detained. Host's elder daughter was found dead with a stab wound.

A criminal case under part 2 of article 139 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (murder) was opened against the man. Motives for the crime are being figured out.
