KGB announced the capture of Lithuanian Spies

They face 7 to 15 years in prison.

The State Security Committee of Belarus prevented spy activity of Belarusian citizens carried out for the Lithuanian Republic. This was reported in the KGB Center of Information and Public Relations.

“During the agent’s action the KGB officers arrested in the act the resident of the Lithuanian military intelligence, the citizen “F”.  At the same time, members of his agent communication chain were arrested on the fact of transfer of secret data to the foreign special services”, - informed the Center of Information and Public Relations.

According to KGB, “electronic storage devices and other items and materials, exposing their espionage activities, aimed to receive secret information in the military area, including in the area of united security system of the Allied State” were taken during the search operations.

Besides, noted in the center, there are documentary confirmations of operations, conducted by the agent group, on extraction of information in order to further transfer of data abroad. “The fact of cooperation with Lithuanian special services is confirmed by the proofs collected during the investigation and by confessions of the convicts”, - stated in KGB.

On the conclusion of the experts, clarified in the center, “materials, collected and prepared to the transfer to the Lithuanian Republic, are related to state secrets of the Republic of Belarus”.

“Prompt intervention of the State Security Committee has exposed plans of the foreign intelligence, has allowed to take their actions under control and prevent serious damage to defense and safety of the state”, - stated in the Center.

KGB also informed that a criminal case has been initiated against the prisoners on the article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus – state treason. The sanction of the article implies punishment with imprisonment of 7 to 15 years.
