New ambassador of Lithuania: we really need that transit through Klaipeda

Linas Linkevičius, new ambassador of Lithuania in Belarus, stated that both countries are interested in development of economic relations, which are sometimes influenced by political problems.

“If some interferences happen, mostly of political origin, they influence financial businesses. Of course, we would like to avoid such things. I think, it is a mutual interest, because both countries, in principle, are interested in economic relations”, -stated Lithuanian diplomat in his interview to the Belarusian agency BNS.

He noted that “Belarus is an important economic partner”. Lithuania is the seventh in export to Belarus, the tenth in import, reported the ambassador. “Transit and transport carriages, transshipment activities related to Klaipeda port are very important. This is a great interest. Naturally, one want the most favorable conditions, one should tend to it”, - stated L.Linkevičius.

“Above all, I keep in mind that this country (Belarus) is our neighbor, and a very important neighbor”, - said Linkevičius. According to his words, “neighbors are interested in conducting a dialogue, cooperation, in order to avoid conflicts and tension”. “I see my goal in this. Differences and tension were in the past. Presumably, it is inevitable in the future. But our goal is to reduce them to minimum”, - stated Lithuanian ambassador.
