Lukashenka ignored letter from Uralkali employees

On 2 November it has been a month since Uralkali employees’ appeal was delivered to Lukashenka’s administration.

According to the Media-Berezniki web-site, in the letter, signed by about 6 thousand people, the potash industry workers from Berezniki and Solikamsk asked Aliaksandr Lukashenka to take measures for the sooner release of Vladislav Baumgertner and the resolution of the situation, which each day was causing greater harm to the mutual trust between Russia and Belarus.

There has been no response to the letter from Minsk, although the law of the Republic of Belarus “On appeals by citizens and legal persons” provides for written appeals to be considered no later than 15 days after their submission, and the appeals, requiring additional examination and inspection – no later than in a month. Obviously, the Belarusian legislation does not always work.

On 11 October Aliaksandr Lukashenka, who had been speaking for five and a half hours to 80 Russian journalists from 45 regions of the Russian Federation, confirmed that he had received the letter from Uralkali workers. “We, of course, are obliged to respond, we will respond to the people, we are preparing the response”, - he said then, however the words remained just words. Aliaksandr Lukashenka also claimed then: “I had the urge to come there myself to this Berezniki and tell them the whole truth what it actually was”.

We would remind that Baumgertner was arrested in Minsk on 26 August and charged with violating part 3 of the article 424 of the Criminal Code of Belarus (power abuse). Now the businessman is under house arrest.
