Belarus will face 20% inflation and flight of people

The yearly price growth in Belarus will be significantly higher than the government prognoses.

Practically all famous independent experts of the country claim that.

The active dynamics of price growth in Belarus, in the opinion of independent experts, leaves little chances for the inflation in 2013 to remain within the planned range. As the result the country’s population will have to pay for these miscalculations, Deutsche Welle reports.

According to Belarusian Statistics Committee’s data, only in the first quarter of the year the inflation accounted for 5.4% with the yearly prognosis of 12%.

Though, independent experts do not share such confidence. A former head of Belarus’ National Bank Stanislau Bahdankievich believes that “there is 100 percent” probability of the inflation going beyond the prognosis border line. According to Bahdankievich, it is caused by the growth of money supply in the country, the growths of the economy crediting pace.

“The government does not have a program for the recovery of the economy. And such a program must be first of all targeted at fighting the inflation”, - Stanislau Bahdankievich noted. By his estimation, this year actual inflation rates in Belarus may be similar to last year’s and account for about 20%.

The consequence of the growth of the inflation, as an economist Mikhail Zalesski notes, will be additional burden on employers and respectively – employees. “People will have to cut out their family budgets again, buy out foreign currency”, - the economist prognoses. At the same time labour migration will continue, which Zalesski calls no other than evacuation.
