Interior Ministry does not want to investigate hacking attack on Viasna website

Information about the offence is not a ground for the Interior Ministry to launch an investigation.

Euroradio has learnt it from Kanstantin Shalkevich, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry:

“The information on the websites, which are not considered to be official sources of information, cannot be regarded as a report and a guide to action. Let the victims wake up, go to a police station and file a report that they are owners, founders or editors of the website.”

However, victims can apply to the Belarusian police only if they are citizens of Belarus or their website is registered under .by.

Valiantin Stefanovich, a deputy head of Viasna human rights centre, told charter97.org he saw no sense in filing a report to the police.

“We have not thought about a report to the police yet, but in my opinion, it has no sense. They are the people who hacked the site and limited access to the websites of Viasna, Charter'97 and Belorusski Partizan in government agencies. But we will think it over,” the human rights defender said.
