Belarus’ Kiriyenko wins stage 18 at Vuelta a Espana

Belarusian cyclist Vasily Kiriyenko won the 18th stage of the prestigious race Vuelta a Espana on 12 September.

The Belarusian finished the 186.5km Burgos-Pena Cabarga trek in an impressive time of 4 hours, 46 minutes and 48 seconds. Denmark’s Chris Sorensen was second, 28 seconds behind, while Australia’s Adam Hansen finished in the third place, 1 minute and 18 seconds behind.

The overall standings are topped by Italy’s cyclist Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) with 73 hours 39 minutes and 35 seconds. Chris Hansen is only three seconds behind while Alejandro Valverde from Movistar Team is third, 1 minute and 10 seconds behind. Vasily Kiriyenko, 32, is 33rd, 2 hours 7 minutes and 49 seconds behind.

There will be three more stages at the 2013 edition of the Vuelta a Espana. The next one will be held on 13 September while the last race will take place on 15 September with the finish in Madrid.

The 68th Vuelta is held in Spain, Andorra and France. The first such race was held in distant 1935.
