KGB accuses priests Lazar of state treason

KGB accuses priests Lazar of state treason

The priest is charged with passing money to a ”spy”.

The information comes from the Roman Catholic Church in Belarus’ web-site.

“The conference of catholic bishops received information from state agencies on the detention of the priest Vladislav Lazar. The priest has been actually detained by KGB and is in a KGB jail in Minsk. He is being accused of having violated the paragraph 1 of the article 356 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus. His criminal responsibility is defined by the paragraph 6 of the article 16 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

The priest Vladislav Lazar is charged with passing money and material values to a person, accused of espionage for another state.

By the request of the church hierarchy an assurance was received that all his rights will be observed in the case of father Vladislav Lazar according to the legislation of the Republic of Belarus.

In the nearest future the apostolic nuncio to Belarus archbishop Claudio Gugerotti will be provided with an opportunity of a personal meeting with father Vladislav Lazar.

The state authorities guarantee that the church hierarchy will be informed on the results of the ongoing investigation on the regular basis.

According to the state authorities, this incident will not influence the trust climate between the Republic of Belarus and the Apostolic See and the respect to the Catholic Church”, - the web-site informs.

Lukashenka: A priest helped a “traitor” from special services

It seems like on 26 July Aliaksandr Lukashenka was talking precisely about the priest Lazar:

“We have recently detained a traitor, who served in special services and who was linked to foreign states via representatives of the Catholic Church”, - Lukashenka noted speaking to journalists.

This special service agent, the ruler specified, “did not only provide information, but due to his activities people suffered, who worked abroad”. “Is this treason? Of course, it is treason”, - Lukashenka said.

The spy turned out to be KGB’s deputy chairman?

On 6 September it became known that the name of Leanid Dziadkou disappeared from the list of the KGB chairman’s deputies.

This may indicate his “silent” dismissal, which the agency does not want to make public. In KGB the major-general was in charge of the foreign intelligence service.
