Yuri Chyzh got a year to complete the ex-Kempinski

The construction of multifunctional complex with trophy hotel next to the National Circus in Minsk has been prolonged to the end of 2015.

Lukashenka signed an appropriate order in November 12. It amends and supplements the order № 243 from May 11, 2010, that gave start to the construction of the project in the stated area: Nezalezhnastsi Av.- Kupala Str. – the Svislach.

The order does not mention the name of the hotel – “Kempinski”. At first it should have been put in commission before the IHWC (Ice Hockey World Championship) in 2014. Now this is the hotel of no name.

Few months ago Kempinski Hotels S.A. sent out the letter from the Corporate Office notifying of that “they will not manage the hotel” in Minsk. Though in spring and early summer “KM Luxury Hotel/Kempinski Plaza Minsk” was recruiting employees. As it became known from one of the participants of this process, in July the company representatives “froze” the recruiting campaign.

“Elite Estate” is the Contract giver of this multifunctional complex in Minsk. It is the subsidiary of “Triple” company; the owner is Belarusian olygarch Yuri Chyzh.

The sources informed TUT.by about problems encountered between “Triple” and Kempinski. Now Belarusian company is holding talks with other hoteliers.

Group of companies “Triple” were not available for comments.

In 2012 the scandalous hotel became a stumbling block while the EU talks on imposing sanctions against Lukashenka’s regime. They discussed the restrictive measures against some Belarusian oligarchs. As a result, the EU Ministers expanded sanctions added to a list 21 persons, judges and security chiefs.

Slovenia, one of the country members of the union, then opposed the inclusion of the famous oligarch Yuri Chyzh whose sphere of interest involved many areas, starting with restaurants and ending with building activity and oil refining. Allegedly this happened because of the fact that the country was trying to guard the interests of one of its development company, Rico, which got the contract to build a large housing and office complex in the center of Minsk. And a new hotel "Kempinski" should be its center.
