Canadian MFA: Pressure on Russia to be maintained

Canada's authorities are seriously concerned by reports of Russian troops moving to the Ukrainian border.

It was said by the country's foreign minister John Baird in a statement, RIA Novosti reports.

“Canada is deeply concerned by reports of Russian troops moving closer to the border with Ukraine,” he said.

The Canadian foreign minister called on Russia to “immediately withdraw its troops not only from border regions but also from Ukraine’s sovereign territory”, adding that Canada would continue to follow developments. “Canada will monitor developments closely and will continue to work with partners and allies to maintain pressure on Russia to cease its aggression,” the statement says.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said earlier Russian troops were noticed “moving closer to the border with Ukraine” and again accused Russia of supporting militants in eastern Ukraine.
