Head of Minsk directorate of Investigation Committee detained in Lithuania?

Lithuanian border guards detained a citizen of Belarus who was carrying cartridges in his car.

It is said in a press release on the website of the Lithuanian prosecutor's office.

“The territorial customs service of Medininkai detained a Honda CR-V car registered in Belarus on the road to Belarus. Several tens of Luger cartridges were found in the car. A middle aged couple, both citizens of Belarus, was returning in the car from Lithuania,” the press release reads.

An investigation was launched over the fact of carrying ammunition.

“The persons in the car were detained. The Embassy of Belarus in Lithuania was informed about the detention in due order. Representatives of the embassy were allowed to meet with detained citizen D.K. on Monday, September 22,” the prosecutor's agency reports.

A preliminary investigation into carrying ammunition is conducted by the third department of the Vilnius district prosecutor's office. A decision on pretrial restrictions will be taken in the nearest days.

Charter97.org contacted the border service and the prosecutor's office of Lithuania, but they declined to say the names and jobs of the detained persons. “We cannot reveal personal information until an official decision is taken,” a representative of the prosecutor's office said.

Tut.by says citing its sources that the detained person is Dzmitry Kanaplianik (Dmitry Konoplianik), the head of the Minsk directorate of the Investigation Committee, who visited Lithuania as a tourist.
