Homel taxi driver: No job in the city

Toughening competition, gasoline prices and rising dollar exchange rate are the main factors which suppress private tax service.

One of the taxi drivers, working for more than 10 years in Homel, shared his thoughts with charter97.org about the situation in the country.

"I have been working for more than 10 years and see the situation is getting worse every year. And now it is a total disaster: every month we have different operators, there are only a few cars left, and I’m the only one who is on duty in this large area. Why? I think all the factors coincided at a bad time: the number of vehicles is increasing due to Russia, when people came to buy cheap cars a month ago. Plus, the currency exchange rate is rising, wages are falling, the competition is toughening, and working hours are decreasing. Today it's my second order for a day and it's is already getting late...Good times have already fallen off the edge of the earth", he said.
