Moldovan PM: Russia Should Withdraw Its Troops From Transnistria

Moldovan Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet announced that his country insisted on withdrawal of Russian military from Transnistria and creation of an international civil mission in the region.

Strelet said this during the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York on Sept. 30, Censor.NET reports citing Radio Svoboda.

The Moldovan PM reiterated his country's strong stance on demanding Russian troops and armament withdrawal from the territory of Moldovan Republic, as stipulated by the Moldovan Constitution and international liabilities.

As known, Transnistria is a separatist region of Moldova. Under Moldovan legislation, the area on the Dniester river's left bank with 500,000 population is an "autonomous territory with a special legal status."

Russian troops are currently deployed in Transnistria as "peacekeepers."
