Lenta.ru: Airbase's Main Objective Is to Combat Polish Aviation

As well as attacks on land forces of Poland, inter alia, on those in its territory.

Russian media reports today. If to consider scenario of the regional conflict, it becomes clear that fighting the air force of Poland will be the main objective of the Russian airbase in Belarus, Russian information portal Lenta.ru writes.

Given the recent foreign policy events, active militarization and military integration of the Nordic countries (despite the fact that NATO only includes Norway), in case of a large conflict main forces of the WMD would fight forces of Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden — it is about 250 fighters of various types: the American F-18 and F-16, the Swedish JAS-39 Gripen, 52 Norwegian Air Force fighter aircraft F-35, fifth generation, made in the United States to join them soon.

Against this backdrop, it will be hard to divert attention of NASP RF to the fight with Polish Air Force, armed with 48 F-16 fighters and 32 Soviet Mikoyan MiG-29 (NATO reporting name: "Fulcrum"). The way to Poland from Belarus is much shorter: it is minimum 750 km from the nearest airfields in the RF to Warsaw, when it is only 350 km away from Baranavichy, thus, flight-in time of Russian planes will be reduced by a half.

Given the possibility of upgraded Sukhoi Su-27 SM3 and eight divisions of surface-to-air missile systems S-300PS, embodied in the armed forces of Belarus, a member of the joint air defense system of the CSTO (four were deployed in 2005-2006, four more should become operational before the end of this year). It will be enough to conduct fighting with the Polish Air Force, as well as for attacks on land-based enemy forces including targets on its territory.
