Lenta.ru: Airbase's Main Objective Is to Combat Polish Aviation

The way to Poland from Belarus is much shorter: it is minimum 750 km from the nearest airfields in the RF to Warsaw, when it is only 350 km away from Baranavichy, thus, flight-in time of Russian planes will be reduced by a half.

Given the possibility of upgraded Sukhoi Su-27 SM3 and eight divisions of surface-to-air missile systems S-300PS, embodied in the armed forces of Belarus, a member of the joint air defense system of the CSTO (four were deployed in 2005-2006, four more should become operational before the end of this year). It will be enough to conduct fighting with the Polish Air Force, as well as for attacks on land-based enemy forces including targets on its territory.
