Twenty seven dwellers of the Mahilou and Homel regions made a collective appeal to Lukashenka.

“Our region hasn't seen rain for a long time, which is bad for harvest,” they wrote in a letter initiated by Mahilou activist Aliaksei Paulouski, BelaPAN reports.

It is said in the letter that the dictator once ordered Siamion Shapira, the chairman of the Minsk regional executive committee, to “go to a synagogue and ask for rain”. “He fulfilled your order, and it rained in Minsk. We haven't had rain for a long time. Why didn't you order rain for us? We regard it as discrimination,” the appeal reads.

The authors of the letter call on Lukashenka to “ask for rain across Belarus” and “give priests an order to organise a procession”.

On 29 April 2015, storm broke out in Minsk when Aliaksandr Lukashenka was addressing the nation and the parliament. Having heard a clap of thunder, Lukashenka said: “Shapira has prayed in a synagogue. It's raining only in the Minsk region. Only here. Good work, Siamion! I hope it is raining in other regions, too. We sowed crops fast, and the land is dry.”

Lukashenka is also known for saying, “You asked for rain, and I gave you rain.”
