How Minsk “Mayor” Refuted Lukashenka’s Words

In a year and a half the pre-election promise of the Belarusian ruler vanished into thin air.

– I have said my word. The president has passed a decision that rental housing must come into existence. We have started new construction, and this innovation started spreading across the country. Let us discuss some principles of payment, formation of queues, allocation of housing and so on at consultations with the president… – by these words Lukashenka blessed construction of Magistr housing estate in September 2014, Salidarnasts reminds.

Just a year and a half have passed. Magistr has been built somehow. But by all appearances, the “presidential” construction, which had been actively launched the pre-election period, is to end by that. As said by Minsk mayor Andrei Shorats at the press-conference today, the city simply has no money for construction of rental housing.

As said by the mayor, the city budget for the year 2016 has been formed in such a way that there is no money for construction of rental housing, despite its shortage.

In general, once again the presidential construction is being postponed. Like other Lukashenka’s housing (and not only housing) promises, by the way.

Well, it can’t be helped! What could be done about that, when every five years, right after the elections, some overwhelming forces interfere with “the president’s word’s” coming true.
