Migrants Abused In Minsk Detention Center For Several Months

They are not allowed to return to their homeland.

The Minsk detention centre has been mocking migrants for several months. Charter97.org has learned that seven migrants from Ethiopia, Pakistan, India and Bangladesh are not allowed to return home. All migrants were detained for violation of the period of stay in Belarus.

"They are kept in terrible conditions, 15-16 people in eight-bed cells. There are very young guys 20-25 years old. They are deprived of paper and writing materials. They are sleeping on the floor on thin blankets (without mattresses),” said a source familiar with the situation.

The Belarusian Migration Service, according to a source of Charter97.org, simply "threw migrants on the detention facility."

"A guy from Pakistan met all the conditions of the migration service. His passport was handed over and tickets were purchased. But the plane flew away, and no one came to the detention center to take him. Relatives of some migrants have already handed over their passports to the migration service, and no one is releasing them. And the detainees themselves are not allowed to make calls," the source told us.
