Journalist beaten for viewing charter97.org website filed complaint to prosecutor’s office

Dzyanis Kudryn, a journalist beaten by policemen for viewing charter97.org website, filed an application to the prosecutor’s office.

The leader of the Internet project “Electronic Vitsebsk” has spent three days in Minsk Emergency Hospital.

“At the moment I have prepared an application against the policeman who had beaten me at the railway station in Minsk. In the nearest time I am going to forward it to the Prosecutor’s Office and to the Interior Affairs Ministry of Belarus… But frankly speaking, I doubt that someone is going to unravel this case at all, as a policeman is engaged in this case, and they are sure to cover up his tracks!

On May 12 I was discharged from hospital, and I decided to carry out a raid around internet-clubs… As a result, I found out that access to charter97.org website at Minsk railway station is already banned (“Access denies” and “Connection failure” reports appeared on the screen), and it is allowed at other internet-clubs, including bus station “Maskouski”,” the journalist told.

We remind that the project leader of “Electronic Vitsebsk: Dzyanis Kudrin was detained in the public internet access center at Minsk railway station.

The journalist told how it all happened: “The woman who collected money for use of the internet and wrote down my passport details, simply came up to me and said: “Please, close charter97.org website.” I naturally asked why I should do that. There was no answer. She left and in about 5 minutes returned with a policeman. He pushed me away from the internet café saying I had used foul language and insulted a police officer. I was taken into some room on the ground floor, and the policeman started beating me. Later I was said that in case they would see me at the railway station in the public internet access center again, I am going to have serious problems. Besides, I was fined 5 basic units. That’s the country we are living in; one cannot even read the news!”
