Picket in memory of Politkovsakaya held near Institute of Journalism in Minsk (Photo)

Activists of the civil campaign “European Belarus” held a picket in memory of journalist Anna Politkovskaya, killed three years ago.

The picket took place near the Institute of Journalism of Belarusian State University. The picketers were holding a portrait of Anna Politkovskaya and poster with information about murder of the journalist on October 7, 2006, the website “European Belarus” reports.

“Journalist! Remember and Appreciate Power of Truth” – it was a call of the picketers to the future graduates of the institute of journalist. They handed out leaflets with information about the situation with freedom of speech and persecuting journalist in Russia and Belarus.

“It’s not a secret that many Belarusian “journalists” work for state-run mass media and deal with propaganda, but not with journalism. Students studying journalism will face the same temptation. So, we decided to remind about Anna Politkovskaya, who was killed due to her independence and adherence to principles. I think POlitkovskaya is an example for everyone who calls himself a journalist. any journalist, coming to terms with conscience, insults her memory,” a participant of the picket said.
