MPs: Election day in Belarus may be set at special session

11

The Belarusian MPs haven’t discussed the date of the presidential elections yet.

It is unknown when the appropriate document will be submitted to the “parliament”. Vice speaker Viktar Huminski told Euroradio the information about considering the draft resolution on setting the date of the presidential elections on September 26 was “false and slanderous”.

“This is absolutely untrue. If you are trying to examine me, it’s in vain, I’m speaking honestly. If you really heard this information, this is complete lies and slander. I can tell it straight and honestly,” Huminski said.

We remind that the date of the presidential elections must be set by members of the “house of representatives”. The last sitting of the session is to take place on June 30. According to Huminski, if a document on the date of the presidential elections is sent to the “house of representatives”, the MPs won’t find it difficult to gather for a special session.

“It sometimes happens that special sessions are called. There is the Constitution that sets all procedures. It mustn’t necessary be this session, it may be a special or the next session,” he noted.

According to Huminski, the MPs haven’t considered possible terms of the presidential elections. He also doesn’t know when a concrete document will be discussed.
