Harry Pahanyajla: Anything at all could be expected from sick man

Lukashenka fears any public expression of social unrest.

The Belarusian dictator has threatened to “bash” anyone who would dare to strike. “These ‘conscious’ (the opposition – Interfax) call on strikes in Minsk by means of social network on the Internet and organize strikes on borders. I will keep an eye on this, monitor this, but then I will bash them so that they won’t have time to flee abroad,” Alyaksandr Lukashenka noted during his working visit to an agricultural enterprise in Minsk region on June 14.

“It is a real threat. Lukashenka fears any public airing of discontent by people, so anything could be expected from this man. Besides, it should be taken into account that we are dealing with a sick person,” said a human rights activist Harry Pahanyajla in an interview to Belsat. He reminded that Lukashenka stated himself that in order to retain the power he is ready to use force, including the army, that is, to shed blood.

The head of the legal commission of the Belarusian Helsinki Committee Harry Pahanyajla attracts attention to the fact that the Constitution of Belarus guarantees a right for holding peaceful rallies and assemblies to citizens of Belarus. “To participate in them is a right of all those who disagree with the government. So when dissenters gather on the square, this protest has a peaceful nature, it must not be disbanded with the use of force. It is a direct violation not only of Belarusian laws, but those international commitments signed by our country,” Harry Pahanyajla said.
