Member of Ukrainian Rada supports Mikalai Statkevich

A member of the parliament of Ukraine and the chair of the Ukrainian Social Democratic Party (USDP), Natalia Korolevska, expressed her support for political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich.

Natalia Korolevska, the USDP leader and a Ukrainian MP (parliamentary group Bloc Yulia Tymoshenko-Batkivschyna), sent a letter to Belarusian political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, the leader of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Narodnaya Hramada) and former Belarusian presidential candidate. On behalf of Ukrainian social democrats, she expressed the words of respect and support for the people struggling for freedom and democracy in the Republic of Belarus.

“We, the social democrats of Ukraine, are indignant over the barbarous pressure on you from the authorities. The court decision on striker confinement conditions reminded us what was done to many Ukrainian prominent freedom and democracy fighters in the Soviet Union. Your heroic resistance to the dictatorial regime finds respect and support not only in Ukraine, but in the whole Europe,” Natalia Korolevska wrote.

She is confident Mikalai Statkevich's courageous resistance to the dictatorial regime is an important step on the way to free and democratic Belarus. “We have solidarity with you and other Belarusian political prisoners. My colleagues and I will use every opportunity to acchive your release,” the USDP leader stressed.

“We will keep a close eye on your life in prison and inform the Ukrainian society and our international partners about your situation. We believe we'll be able to see you and your country free soon,” Natalia Korolevska concluded.
