Lukashenka proposed CSTO to deal with Uzbekistan

The governor asked to respond to Uzbekistan’s stance.

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) should respond to Uzbekistan’s stance as well as the situation in Tajikistan, said Alexander Lukashenka as he met with CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordiuzha on 31 July.

Alexander Lukashenka reminded the next CSTO session is scheduled to take place in December. The Belarusian head of state remarked he would like to hear Nikolai Bordiuzha’s view on the situation in Tajikistan. “It is a member of our organization. The situation is complicated and the appeal of the president cannot be disregarded,” said he.

Alexander Lukashenka asked Nikolai Bordiuzha about Uzbekistan’s stance: “What kind of stance is that? What is it based on? Is it what we saw before or is it something serious?” he added: “You have met with the leadership of Russia and you know their view. I would like to talk about it as well”.

“A decision must be made. It cannot be avoided,” underlined Alexander Lukashenko.

“This is a disturbing time. One has to respond. Maybe time is trying our durability,” said he.

In turn, Nikolai Bordiuzha emphasized all the registered trends were negative. “They indicate that the situation around and inside the former USSR is getting worse. Tajikistan is a manifestation of the negative development trend,” he remarked.

Nikolai Bordiuzha informed the Belarusian head of state about the current state of affairs in the CSTO as well as Uzbekistan’s move to terminate its membership in the organization.
