Authorities forbad referendum on construction works in Sevastopalski park

There will be no referendum in Minsk on the issue of constructing buildings in Sevastopalski park.

The initiative group for the holding of the referendum has not been registered, Nasha Niva reports. The court of the capital’s Pershamajski district refused to file a civil case about the non-registration of the initiative group for arranging the referendum.

The judge Piatukh considered that the head of the initiative group Viktar Yanchurevich could not sign and submit the appeal on behalf of all its members. Yanchurevich appeals to the Electoral Code, according to which it is exactly him who has such a right.

The initiative group for holding a referendum over the fate of the capital’s Sevastopalski park was created on 28 November 2012. The documents for its registration were submitted in December, but the group received a reject.

It was suggested to bring on the referendum the issues of preserving Sevastopalski park in its today’s boundaries and forbid any new construction works and road building in its territory.
