Council of Europe experts teach Lukashenka's security services

Representatives of the Council of Europe has met with the heads of the KGB, the State Control Committee, the Interior Ministry and the Prosecutor General's Office of Belarus.

The meeting was held on July 22 as part of the campaign “Analysis and typologies on laundering the proceeds of corruption”. Participants of the meeting discussed the problems relating to laundering the proceeds of money obtained by criminal means, the press service of the Belarusian Prosecutor General's Office reports.

The Council of Europe was represented at the meeting by Tilman Hoppe, a project adviser for “Good Governance and Fight against Corruption”, and director of the Financial Intelligence Unit of Lichtenstein Daniel Thelesklaf.

Belarus was represented by chiefs of directorates and departments of the Prosecutor General’s Office, officers of the State Control Committee, the Investigation Committee, the KGB, the Interior Ministry and the National Bank.

Ihar Hraibo, the chief of the department for corruption and organised crime at the Prosecutor General’s Office, said: “The participation in the project 'Good Governance and Fight against Corruption' in the framework of the Eastern Partnership initiative, the joint instrument of the EU and Council of Europe, had great important for Belarus. The country's specialists used the positive experience of European states to carry out reforms in the law-enforcement system.”

Participants of the meeting discussed the issues on laundering the proceeds from corruption and heard reports about positive results in this sector.
