Hrodna residents: It is past time to kick Lukashenka out

20

What should happen for new authorities to come in Belarus?

Are such changes needed? Residents of Hrodna answer questions from BelaPAN news agency:

“I believe that Belarus needs changes. Why? Every citizens should understand that the country belongs to him. People express their opinion not only by casting ballots, but also by defending their choice, also in streets. I am not Vanga, but the time he called – the 2050s – is far from the reality. It's time to change something. He once said that he would stay in power until 2051 or something like that.”

“I think we need new authorities. Two terms are enough. But he seems to remain in power until his death. Our people can tolerate for a long time. We are not like Ukrainians. We will tolerate. No one believes in elections and voting. Ask most Hrodna dwellers: people know everything and don't like it.”

“We need new young brains. I didn't vote at the previous elections. Of course, we need to replace him [Lukashenka]. I think it's enough for him. We definitely need a new president.”

“Well, they are all pro-communist, for example, like Nazarbayev. They are dictators and they will rule. Nothing depends on us. They surrounded themselves with law-enforcement bodies and don't care about people. Belarusians are not Ukrainians, not Russians. It seems unreal. If a Belarusian is ordered to sit on a chair with a nail, he will sit and said to himself 'Maybe it is right'.”

“Most countries have only two presidential terms for one person, and it seems reasonable. I think it is unreal [to change something], but we can dream about it.”

“It's past time to kick him out. I don't even want to say more. All are tired of such a life. What can we change if we are more like cattle than people?”

“I think one becomes mad after eight years in power. Of course, we need changes. But I don't see any conditions. It will continue like that as long as most people accept the situation. Unfortunately, most people accept it.”
