MPs Versus Car Owners: Fight For Technical Inspection To Continue

"Deputies" decided to leave the procedure for collecting the transport tax unchanged after January 1.

There will be no changes in the procedure for collecting the transport tax in Belarus from January 1, 2018. Volha Palitsika, Deputy Chairman of the Standing Committee on Industry, Fuel and Energy Complex, Transport and Communications of the House of Representatives stated this in the comments to the Euroradio.

As she said, "deputies" have developed some amendments to the corresponding bill. They actively cooperated with the interested departments, so that these amendments were made and came into force. However, there is no mutual understanding on this issue yet. Therefore, it is not known when to expect this proposal to be considered, Palitsika said.

The "Deputy" reminded that the MPs proposed: 1. to give the opportunity to pay the transport tax not for the whole year, but for a certain period (for a month and three months) in which the citizen used his/her car (pensioners usually have such a request). 2. To make the payment of the specified tax unrelated to the technical inspection. Volha Palitsika says that they didn't consider reducing the amount of tax.

As you know, the transport tax is payment of the state duty for issuing permission for the vehicle to participate in traffic. Legally it exists since the end of 2013. Half of the tax goes to local budgets, this money is used to repair existing roads or to build new ones.
