Lukashenka Declares Himself the Human Rights Chief Inspector

The dictator is personally responsible for repressions against dissentients.

Aliaksandr Lukashenka stated that the head of the state must be the "human rights Chief Inspector" in the country.

This statement was made on Thursday in Minsk during the oath of judge of the Constitutional Court of Belarus Viktar Rabtsau, the press-service of the Belarusian ruler reports.

The dictator noted that "Belarus is often required to confirm the position of ombudsman who could control observance of human rights".

"Although we do not have such specific position, I constantly repeat that observance of human rights is possible if the President is the human rights chief inspector," Lukashenka is being quoted.

The dictator says that judge of the Constitutional Court should be next to him on the matter. "The authorities must ensure compliance with fundamental rights of our citizens. This is the main thing," he said.

Lukashenka has also noted the importance of the tradition of public oath by judges of the Constitutional Court. "It once again reminds all of us in the country and abroad about democracy in our country," he stressed.
