Henadz Fiadynich: Belarusians’ Protest Moods Only Grow

According to the leader of the REP Trade Union, the people see the government does not consider them.

The REP Trade Union has collected 47 thousand signatures for the abolishment of the “social parasites” decree; the signature collection will last till March 25.

This decision has been taken today by the Presidium of the Belarusian Trade Union of the Radio-Electronic Industry Workers (REP).

“The people are still coming to the regional offices, where it is possible to put a signature to express one’s protest in the written form,” – leader of the REP Trade Union Henadz Fiadynich has told Radio Liberty. “We cannot refuse them. Such moods in the society do not subside. So we have decided to continue the action. We have 47 thousand signatures by now, and that’s not all.

Our activists predict that the activity of the participants of mass actions will escalate. Now we have started receiving replies from the authorities’ structures to our enquiries. However, the officials’ replies seem totally identical. They don’t see the pain and the problems of the people in all this. They give only one reply – we don’t see the grounds to abolish the decree.

Such reaction of the officials, including “deputies” of the “chamber of representatives”, irritates the people. The people see that the government does not consider them, and their protest moods grow rapidly.”
