The sanctions mode will be restored if new political prisoners appear in Belarus.

Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevičius does not exclude that the countries of the West can introduce new sanctions against Belarus if political prisoners return to the country.

This is how he commented on air of the LRT Radijas what had happened on the Freedom Day in Minsk. According to Linas Linkevičius, such actions of the Belarusian authorities will not bring them any good, Radio Liberty reports.

"This will in fact affect not only the domestic policy, where the situation will not be stabilized, but also jeopardize further relations with the European Union. And, accordingly, it will affect all other agreements arising from this, which in fact would have been beneficial to Belarus as a country.

So here is the choice of the authorities of Belarus, and our duty is to react principally and adequately to the situation. Unfortunately, this reaction will continue to be harsh. If political prisoners return there, there will undoubtedly be a return to the issue of sanctions," - the Lithuanian Foreign Minister has said.

Important to note, on March 25 the authorities put thousands of riot policemen against peaceful demonstrators in Minsk.
