Eight Pictures Of Dignity And Disgrace After Freedom Day

On Monday, Belarus held mass trials against the people detained at the actions on the Freedom Day on March 25 and 26.

“Solidarity” has collected 8 vivid moments from the trials against the heroes of the people’s protests.

Head of the “Art-Siadziba” Pavel Belavus was charged with swearing in public in the Kastrychnitskaya Square on March 26. “I speak Belarusian, so even if I had sworn, riot policemen would have never understood me,” — he said at the trial. The sentence was 25 days of detention.

The son of the BCD Executive Secretary Dzianis Sadouski brought a poster “Freedom to My Dad!” to the court. The dad was fined for 80 base fees in the end- almost $ 1000.

The policemen who came to testify hid their faces.

Judge Aliaksandr Petrash, who considered that traveller from Russia Olga Roshchina swore in public and participated in a non-sanctioned event.

The "European Belarus" activist Leanid Kulakou was sentenced to 25 days of detention. He called witness Kanstantsin Mikhaseu a "perjurer". Another witness Dzmitry Kachan first confused Kulakou with a human rights activist of “Viasna”, who was sitting on a nearby bench.

The employees of the Savetski district police department Dzmitry Kachan and Kanstantsin Mikhaseu witnessed against at least three defendants. However, they all stated that they were detained by completely different people.

Witness-riot policeman Maxim Kavalchuk stated in court: “Lahviniec banged his head against the car seat. We handcuffed him. Lahviniec injured himself by banging his head against the car seat.”

Lahviniec raised to look into the eyes of the witness and called him a liar.

Lahviniec said that it was the other witness who had beaten him – commander of the Minsk riot police group Aliaksandr Tsiunis. “Aren’t you ashamed of yourself, you disgrace the whole Belarusian police!” — Lahviniec addressed to Tsiunis. “No. I am not,”— he said, having noted: “Why, who loves police today?”
