Dinamo Stadium Turns into a Museum of Corruption

Dinamo Stadium Turns into a Museum of Corruption

Long-term construction has become the Bermuda triangle where budget money disappears.

There is an opinion that modern football is repulsive. And the thing is not about the fact that football players limited with new tough rules do not have to wipe blood off their boots, not about the fact that they have no charisma or skills of legendary football players. When you remember Ronaldo of the 1996/1997 season, Verona's pirate smile, Zidane's grim face or Roy Keane's breaking feet of his rival, you realize how fast time passes. This is a romantic past. Now football is mainly politics. At least, in Eastern Europe. Unfinished ugly stadiums, the Bermuda triangle for the budget money, have become the symbol of modern life, kyky.org writes.

Reconstruction of Minsk Dinamo stadium as an attempt to save money

There is a similar construction in Belarus. We are talking about the prolonged reconstruction of the Dinamo stadium. Originally it was planned to build a completely new stadium in Shchomyslitsa, but it was "expensive", and the city authorities decided to get the Dinamo stadium repaired. Reconstruction works have started in 2012.

The beginning was promising - the old stadium was to turn into a modern arena for 41 thousand people with visors and appropriate infrastructure. However, in the course of not the most complicated mathematical calculations, it turned out that the project would cost about €180 million, so it was decided to find some cheaper option. And then absolutely ridiculous things began to happen: Dinamo was converted into an athletics stadium "with an ability to hold football matches."

"Football matches" meant games of the championship of Belarus, because all this amateur activity was not suitable for international competitions. There is a reasonable question: where will the national team hold home matches? The answer was simple: we will build the stadium for footballplayers a bit later. Terms remained open, of course. The funny thing is that the estimate of useless athletics arena was about €150 million, and the estimated amount of the future stadium "for football players" was estimated at about €95 million. However, it is necessary to pay tribute to our officials: they were able to calculate that 245 million (150 + 95) is much more than the original 180 million. As a result, the project of the track and field athletics stadium was amended so that the reconstructed Dinamo stadium could qualify for the 4th (highest) category of UEFA. Alas, we do not know how much these adjustments will cost. By the way, in this case the term "reconstruction" is rather conditional, considering that the old stadium has remained only arches, which are considered an architectural value for some misunderstanding.

If nothing extraordinary happens, the Dinamo will be finished in 2018. We will allegedly never know how much money was spent on it.

Meanwhile, in private business

It is interesting that Belarus, in parallel with these giant state-run construction projects, has stadiums built exclusively by private traders. So, Anatol Kapsky has built for his FC BATE the only Belarusian stadium one can be proud of.
