The XX century was hard for the Belarusian people, but their future will be happy.

Leader of the “Razam” solidarity movement Viachaslau Siuchyk has told this in an interview to the Charter97.org.

- You participated in various protest actions so you can compare. Have the protests of 2017 been different from the actions in the previous years?

- Certainly. In the first place, it is noteworthy here that the current Belarusian regime has been at power for 23 years by now. The street actions this year are totally logical and naturally determined. There are several factors that caused the wave of protests. First, the authorities have nothing to offer to the Belarusian people anymore. This steered the economic protests. As there have been no real elections in Belarus for 23 years, street protests remain the only leverage the people still have.

Let us not forget about the upcoming military exercises “West-2017” this year. The eastern factor strongly influenced the events of this spring. There were a lot of indicators of the pro-Kremlin orientation of this regime, we saw real Belarusian patriots standing in its way. This concerns not only the notorious “White Legion” case, fabricated in the best traditions of the NKVD.

- What is your prognosis of the further development of the situation with the escalating crisis and the people’s discontent with the government? What will happen next?

- The XX century was hard for the Belarusians. Regardless of this, I believe in the happy future of the Belarusian people. Dictatorships never leave voluntarily, freedom must be fought for. I hope Belarusians will consolidate in the face of danger, in the name of our independence, and we will return our rights and freedoms, which were taken from us.
