Railway Mechanic From Brest Has Been Seeking Justice At Work For More Than Half A Year

The Belarusian railway has worsened the working conditions of some workers and lowered salaries.

Ryhor Lukjanchyk, a locomotive repairman of the Brest Branch of the Belarusian Railroad Brest-Tsentralny, has been seeking justice at work for more than half a year, Radio Racyja reports.

The Belarusian Railway has worsened the working conditions of some workers and lowered salaries. The new working schedule, when the workers work two nights in a row, does not give an opportunity to have enough rest until the next shift.

At the same time, they lose 5% of their earnings on every night shift compared to those who do the same work according to the old schedule. Lukjanchyk addressed the leadership and demanded to return the old schedule. He complained to the Brest Labor Inspectorate.

The worker’s supervisor received a warning, and the justice seeker was transferred to day shifts only, which reduced his salary even more.

He had to appeal to the regional executive committee. The answer shocked him, Ryhor Lukjanchyk says:

– It was stated there that after two working nights there was a rest of one and a half days, and then again two working nights. I got a salary of a watchman, not of a mechanic. Then, a month later, they hold back 50 rubles. The answer of the Brest executive committee was as follows: "Everything is ok in this situation." Then why had my supervisor been given a warning?" – Lukjanchuk can’t understand.

To get an answer to this question, he decided to make an appointment with Anatol Lis, the regional executive committee chairman.

We remind that in February, Brest railway workers protested against low salaries.
