Minsk Traffic Police Get New BMW Motorcycles

The tax payers will have to pay a tidy sum for the service of these “iron horses”.

The Minsk traffic police received new motorcycles, after the state traffic inspectorate of the Minsk region. It has been reported that no less than 6 motorcycles BMW F800GS of the touristic enduro class were passed to the Minsk traffic police inspectorate by the official dealer of the BMW Motorrad in the Republic of Belarus — the autocentre "Bayercraft", tut.by reports.

About a year ago, the Ministry of the Interior announced creation of a new motorcycle division in the state traffic inspectorate in the city of Minsk. In the municipal conditions, as well as in the light off-road conditions, it will be very difficult to escape from such a motorcycle on a car.

The same models are in service in the police and special services of Germany, Great Britain, France, Denmark, the Czech Republic, and, more recently, in the motor-division of Russia.

— Unfortunately, even today there are bikers who are not even going to follow the rules of the traffic movement. To those who, in a dense stream, ride around the city on the rear wheel; those who do not abide to the lanes and systematically exceed speed, the traffic police apply administrative measures. With the help of this motor vehicles, it would be easier to detain those motorcyclists who roughly and cynically ignore the security requirements in the city when operating this high-speed transport. Now we are seeing a slight decrease in accidents involving this category of drivers. And the culture of driving in recent years has grown significantly due to the preventive work of traffic policemen, their close interaction with the motor clubs, — they commented int he traffic police.

It’s important to add that the technical maintenance of such a motorcycle will amount to Bn 36. Here you need to add the cost of 3 liters of oil (Bn 25 per liter) and an oil filter (Bn 36). The fuel consumption for this model does not exceed 6 liters per 100 km.

As charter97.org reported earlier, the Minsk state traffic inspectorate was going to purchase 28 German motorcycles for the new division. The agreement on this was concluded on May 29, 2017, Belatra LLC will be the supplier. The total purchase amount is Bn 960,988.

Lieutenant-Colonel of police in reserve, opposition politician Mikalai Kazlou said the following in an interview to the charter97.org, commenting purchasing of these expensive motor-cycles:

— In my opinion, this can be characterized only one phrase: "A feast in time of plague." Given the economic situation in Belarus, this increase in unemployment, this misery, to waste such money on motorcycles for the traffic police — this is too much.
