“Larysa Heniyush became kind of BPR flag”

Hrodna honored the memory of the Belarusian women-patriots.

A journalist and publicist Aliaksandr Kirkevich made a short lecture in Hrodna. He spoke on the role of women in the activities of the Belarusian People’s Republic, Radio Racyja reports.

According to the journalist, the role of the BPR women-activists is not yet fully explored: “There is no some one specific woman in the BPR. We still do not know a lot of names until the archives are open. But speaking of the women of the BPR, we should definitely mention Paulina Miadziolka, Paluta Badunova, Zoska Veras. And of course Larysa Heniyush, who became a kind of BPR flag, who in my opinion was the main anti-Soviet dissident. The fact that it is a woman who withstood all this and took up her cross during the Soviet era is very worthy and very important.”

You can learn more about the BPR from Ales Kirkevich's articles on the website of the Let's Be Belarusians campaign. Also Yauhen Zmushka from the band Mutnaye Voka spoke during the meeting.
