Mikalai Statkevich: Only We Need Our Freedom

We will get friends and allies around the world as soon as people rise up to fight.

One of the leaders of the Belarusian National Congress, Mikalai Statkevich, wrote about this on Facebook:

– The West has relied on keeping the Belarusian dictator in power. This is evident from the actions and statements of American and European officials.

A high-ranked US official called Belarus “part of the bastion protecting from Russian neo-imperialism.” When meeting with the dictator, he said: “...we perfectly understand the success that you have achieved in ensuring stability and territorial integrity. First of all, political stability in Belarus. ”

Of course, we are also well aware that the reason for the success in ensuring political stability in our bastion is subsidies from the Kremlin. Now, due to Russian economic problems, they have decreased from 27% to 10% of Belarusian GDP. But, all the same, this is an unprecedented amount of interstate subsidies in the world. Although this amount is not enough for the dictator already.

After all, the cost of total control over society, the rejection of long overdue economic reforms, maintaining the atmosphere of total fear, electoral fraud, suppression of protests, kidnapping, arrests and torture of those who disagree is constantly increasing. And Russia only needs to start selling oil and gas at market prices to Belarus to ruin the political stability of our bastion in a very short time.

Therefore, the dictator has to play an anti-Russian bastion while sitting on a Kremlin's leash. What if the West will give at least something to preserve the dictatorship?

Western officials have their reasons. The main of them – let it be better such a buffer from Russia than none. Sorry for the Belarusians, but own security is more important.

Well, their choice is their right.

No one will fight for our freedom. Only we ourselves need it. And friends and allies around the world will appear. As soon as our people rise for their freedom. After all, an open struggle for human rights and dignity always resonates in the hearts of people endowed with a sense of honor.

But now we will have to rely only on ourselves, on our own strength and resources. We should be ready for this.
