The dictator's desire to go for a third term caused mass protests of the Belarusians in due time.

15 years ago, a "referendum" was held in Belarus, which allowed Lukashenka to run for "presidential elections" an unlimited number of times. Lukashenka's desire to run for the third term caused massive protests of Belarusians, Belsat reports.

Pavel Seviarynets, co-chairman of the Belarusian Christian Democracy, was among the participants of those events. Journalists talked about the events that occurred 15 years ago with Pavel Seviarynets.

"If there hadn't been such a referendum and Lukashenka hadn't been nominated at the next "elections," and they would have been held democratically, I think we would have lived quite differently and would be addressing the issue of joining the European Union right now," - the politician said.

We also asked the citizens of Minsk whether the number of presidential terms should be limited and why?
